Watermelon (Sugar Baby)

One plant in a 3” pot. Frost-sensitive annual.

Despite the plants looking meek, they always surprise us and grow two or three wonderful melons.

The hardest part for us has been knowing when to harvest the melons. We’ve been disappointed as we cut into under-ripe green melons that we thought looked perfectly ripe from the outside, and equally disappointed when we’ve cut into an overripe mushy melon.

Our pro tip: pay close attention to the tendril opposite the stem of the fruit. If it’s green and supple, the melon isn’t ready. When it turns brown and dries out, the melon is ripe!
