Rosemary

One plant (much smaller than in the picture, but happy) in a 3” pot. Frost-hardy perennial.

Garden-fresh herbs are one of those foods that just blow their grocery store counterparts out of the water. If you can resist the urge to over-harvest this slow-starter during the first two years, one plant will re-pay you with years of wonderful fresh rosemary. An evergreen, you can eventually harvest it year-round, too..

While cold-tolerant, exceptionally cold winters (if we ever have those again?) can kill it. With that in mind, you should avoid planting it in the coldest spot in your yard (i.e. on the north side of a fence, or a spot that doesn’t get any winter sun).
